About the Founders
Stephen Heape, M.D. is a practicing anesthesiologist in Carson City, Nevada. He has this to say about PhySS,
"On a Fall mountain bike ride, after a long week doing anesthesia, I pondered why anesthesia scheduling is so time consuming and painful. Why isn't there a way to automate daily OR scheduling and give individual clinicians the schedule that they personally want? When I got home, I contacted Wesley, and PhySS was born! Since that time, Wesley and I have developed a user-centered interface that prioritizes simplicity and performance."
Wesley Emeneker, Ph.D. is a computer scientist at the Maui High Performance Computing Center in Kihei, HI. When asked about the founding, Wesley said,
"When Stephen contacted me about some of the scheduling problems his practice was facing, I knew we had an opportunity. I've worked on scheduling problems for a while in academic settings where allocation fairness, deadlines, and strict constraints are of critical importance to different research groups. After a few conversations, I knew we could crack this nut. Medicine is already hard enough without making clinicians feel like they aren't getting their fair share."
